Chalazion

A chalazion is a small, painless lump that forms on the eyelid due to the blockage of an oil gland (Meibomian gland). Unlike a stye, which is usually painful and caused by infection, a chalazion is non-infectious but can cause discomfort and swelling.

Causes & Risk Factors

Blocked oil glands – Accumulation of sebum in the Meibomian gland.

Poor eyelid hygiene – Bacteria and debris buildup.

Chronic blepharitis – Inflammation of the eyelids.

Rosacea & oily skin conditions – Increased risk of blockages.

Frequent eye rubbing – Transfers bacteria to the eyelids.

Symptoms

Small, painless swelling on the eyelid.

Mild tenderness or redness.

Blurred vision (if large enough to press on the eye).

Gradual enlargement over days or weeks.

Homeopathic Approach

Homeopathy helps reduce swelling, promote drainage, and prevent recurrence without surgery.

Common Homeopathic Remedies

Pulsatilla – Best for recurring chalazion, especially in people with oily skin.

Silicea – Helps in draining pus and reducing lump size.

Staphysagria – Effective for painless swelling with irritation.

Hepar Sulph – Used when there is tenderness and mild infection.

Thuja Occidentalis – Ideal for chronic eyelid swellings.

Prevention & Care

Maintain eyelid hygiene – Wash eyes with mild soap or baby shampoo.

Apply warm compress – Helps soften the blockage and drain naturally.

Avoid touching or squeezing – Prevents irritation and infection.

Use clean towels and avoid makeup until healed.

Eat a healthy diet – Include foods rich in vitamin A & omega-3 for eye health.
